The games were different with the boycot of 65 countries, including the USA. a record 203 events. a total domination of USSR in the medal count (195). Eastern Germany was second with 126. Bulgaria finished 3rd with 41! In the pool, the women from East Germany were unbelievable winning 9/11 events; and 26 of the 35 medals! Russian swimmer Vladimir Salnikov won 3 gold medals. He broke also the mythical 15mins. barrier in the 1500M; the equivalent of Roger Banister breaking the 4mins. Also the Sebastian Coe/Steve Ovet rivalry. |
