With Gordie Howe and his wife in attendance, Wayne Gretzky passes Gordie Howe for the all time NHL points lead. He ties Howe at 1,850 points on the Kings first goal which is scored by Bernie Nicholls at 4:32 of the 1st period. That gives the Kings a 1-0 lead. The drama is in the 3rd period. After Kevin Lowe scores on a power play at 15:26 of the period to give the Oilers a 4-3 lead Gretzky scores at 19:07 to tie the game and break Howes record. Then to put the cherry on top Gretzky scores the game winning goal at 3:24 of overtime to give the Kings a 5-4 win. |
