A wide-open high scoring affair seen coast to coast in Canada. Wayne Gretzky puts on a show for the people of his home province. Gretzky lights up the Leafs for two goals and four assists in this action-packed game. There is even a penalty shot in the second period as the puck was covered up in the crease. Stan Weir would be elected to take the PS for Edmonton. The Leafs fought to keep the game close, but Edmonton pulled away in the third period. The Oilers scored three goals in the third period to make it an 8-5 final. You can see that Edmonton had the nucleus to contend for the Stanley Cup for many years to come. As for Toronto they would be mired in mediocrity for a little bit more than a decade. They would have to wait until Pat Burns showed up to take over the coaching reins. |
