This was supposed to be a corronation of The Buckeyes as national champs. They had defeated UCLA by 21 at UCLA in the early part of the season. Instead The Inspired Bruins hand OSU and its coach Woody Hayes a devastating loss. John Sciarra, Wendell Tyler and Wally Henry ignite a second half rally after The Bruins were badly outplayed in the first half but only trailed 3-0. I believe it was at this point that Woody Hayes began his downward spiral that culminated with the disaater in the 1978 Gator Bowl. Rumor was Woody would retire with a win and his last few years he imploded trying to win a title with lessor teams. |
