The Tennessee Volunteers were 9-1. The Vanderbilt Commodores were 1-9. In this state rivalry, the records didn`t matter much as this game was a slugfest. The Vols finally pulled out a comeback, 17-10 win to sew up their Cotton Bowl berth.
