MIDWEST COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

The Backstory of Scorin Pointzon U
Founded in the late 19th century by a band of eccentric meteorologists and tavern owners in a remote mountain valley, Scorin Pointzon University (SPU) was born out of a legendary misunderstanding. The founders originally set out to establish a rigorous academy for advanced atmospheric pressure studies, but a late-night drafting session fueled by an experimental, heavily fermented local brew—subsequently dubbed "The Roaring Hangover"—left the charter documents completely unreadable except for the words "Scorin Pointzon" and "Roarin' Hangovers." Embracing destiny rather than rewriting the paperwork, the trustees christened the institution in honor of both their academic confusion and their morning-after resilience.
Through the decades, the "Roarin' Hangovers" carved out a uniquely chaotic athletic tradition. While rival institutions boasted pristine uniforms and sterile training regimes, SPU’s teams became infamous for arriving just before kickoff wearing slightly mismatched jerseys, rubbing their temples, and possessing an uncanny, sleepy tenacity that somehow overwhelmed opponents in the fourth quarter. Their home stadium, nicknamed "The Morning After Arena," became a fortress of echoing brass instruments, rhythmic groans that somehow harmonized into a terrifyingly loud cheer, and a mascot—a blurry, spectacled grizzly bear clutching a giant mug of black coffee—that struck fear into the hearts of visiting teams.
Today, Scorin Pointzon U stands as a beacon of underdog pride, academic eccentricity, and collegiate spirit. The fight song, written in 1924 by a notoriously sleep-deprived marching band director who swore he saw colors in his coffee, remains a sacred tradition. Sung before every major homecoming game and graduation ceremony alike, it reminds every student that no matter how rough the start of the day or the season might be, the Hangovers always pull it together just in time to roar.
Fight Song Lyrics: "Rise and Roar, Hangovers!"
When the morning light is creeping o'er the quad,
And the campus clock is striking half-past odd,
With a pounding in our heads and a fire in our chest,
The Hangovers are waking to outscore and outbest!
From the valley of the brew to the stadium wall,
We’re stumbling to glory and we’re answering the call!
    So rise, rise, S-P-U!
We’ve got a point to score for you!
With a groan in our voice and a cheer in our soul,
We’re marching right on to the championship goal!
Let the copper kettle ring, let the brass bands play—
The Roarin' Hangovers are taking the day!
