Texas State Unveils the "Pavement Punt" Armadillo-on-a-Stick
In an unprecedented leap forward for stadium cuisine, the Texas State Fightin' Armadillos athletic department announced this week the debut of their new signature game-day delicacy: the "Pavement Punt." This culinary masterpiece features a locally sourced, tenderized armadillo loin wrapped around a jalapeño-stuffed bratwurst, slow-roasted over hickory embers, and served impaled on a full-sized wooden drumstick. Retailing for $14.50, the crunchy, heavily spiced protein spear is designed to mimic the aerodynamic shape of a laces-out football while honoring the state's most iconic roadside fauna. For fans looking to feast like a true tailgate scavenger, concessions also introduced the "Roadkill Rumble Value Pack" for $22.00, which pairs the Pavement Punt with a side of "Tire-Tread Tots" - crinkled potato tots dusted in crushed black pepper ash - and a 32-ounce "Radiator Fluid Slushie," an electric-green limeade infused with sour apple and popping boba.
 Head Concessions Chef Ignatius "Gator" Vance defended the controversial menu addition during a ceremonial ribbon-cutting outside the student section on Thursday. "When folks think of Texas State football, they think of grit, toughness, and heavy impact," Chef Vance explained while wearing a grease-stained apron adorned with a caution sign. "We wanted a game-day dish that reflected that spirit. The secret to the Pavement Punt is getting the casing just crispy enough so it gives you that satisfying crunch before you hit the tender meat inside. Some people asked if we’re just serving whatever we scraped off Highway 21 on the way to work, and to that I say: an artist never reveals his vendors, but I promise it's 100% USDA-inspected... eventually."
Early reviews from adventurous student tailgaters have been overwhelmingly chaotic, with lines wrapping around the lower concourse before kickoff. "Honestly, when I first bit into it, I wasn't sure if I was eating fine dining or a dare I accepted for twenty bucks behind the fraternity house," said senior business major Tyler Higgins, wiping a tear of sour apple slushie from his eye. "The texture is somewhere between smoked pulled pork and a leather football strap, but once you pour on the jalapeño queso, it really comes together. Plus, if we lose the game, the wooden stick doubles as a great noise-maker to bang against the bleachers." Junior biology student Sarah Jenkins agreed, adding, "The Tire-Tread Tots actually slap, even if the Radiator Fluid Slushie turned my entire tongue neon green for forty-eight hours."
