MIDWEST COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION

St. Thomas Coach Long`s On-Field, Post-Game Interview
First and foremost, hats off to that team on the other sideline, Legnbaz Tech. That's a great team who had a fantastic season. Coach Reagan does a terrific job with his players. Legnbaz won our conference this year, the American Midwest, which is the toughest conference in the MCAA. Hats off to Tech.
Today, we were the better team. We liked our matchups going into the week. Our guys were confident. They were focused and knew what they had to do. It's such a pleasure to coach this team each week, watch our guys grow, and get better.
Honestly, we knew a couple of weeks ago that we were going to win the title. Why? Well, we won our first playoff game ever in Week 12 against a really tough and well-coached DC (Not a) St. U squad. They were the lower seeded team. We were the underdogs according to the sharps in Vegas.
We get that win and then the article came out. Our guys saw an article talking about how another team, Arlington St., had the best rushing attack in the MCAA. Coach Kube has a good rushing attack. But, the notion that St. Thomas didn't have the best rushing attack in the league was insulting. We used that insult as bulletin board material.
Look, Arlington has the quantity in terms of carries, rushing attempts, and maybe even a commitment to the run because the Bobcats have world class wide receivers and a lethal passing attack. In terms of quality...no team was in the same class as the Bobcats when it came to toting the rock.
Caleb Hawkins, a freshman who didn't even start his first game until Week 7, leads the MCAA in rushing touchdowns and is Top 5 in yards. LJ Martin is our team captain. He is Top Ten in yards. He had 222 rushing yards and 2 TDs last week in the Sugar Bowl and 95 with 3 TDs this week in the Rose Bowl. King Miller has been a rock for us as a freshman. We started him in the Fiesta Bowl. Unfortunately, we had to put our two service academy heroes in the cooler, Eli Heidenreich and Alex Tecza, but those guys carried us early on while our freshmen developed.
Then there's our QBs. Our starter Sorsby has double digit rushing TDs in an All American season. Our backup Houser has 7 rushing TDs on top of posting more than 3,000 yards passing. Heck, our third team guy Bachmeier, a freshman and future of the program, has 11 rushing TDs. So yeah...we know how to run the football. That's what wins championships in the MCAA. Don't ever let anybody tell you that it's defense.
I'd be a fool to not mention our receivers. Douglas and Wilde carried us all year. We put a couple of studs in the cooler late due to injuries, Sarratt and Ryan Davis, but we wouldn't be where we are without them. The future is bright, too, with a young stud like Wingo and a late waiver pickup Singleton who's been a game changer.
Finally, I've gotta mention our kicker, Woodring. He's been in the program for 3 years. He's rock solid, as automatic as they come, and a master of his craft. When other teams have a revolving door at kicker week-to-week, we just look over at #91 and pencil-in a double digit point total from the K position each week.
Thanks to all the Bobcat fans out there who have been with us since we joined the MCAA four seasons ago. This is the toughest college fantasy league in the country. It's an honor to hoist this trophy representing all these storied programs. We expect to win more titles in the future because we've built something special here. But we also know we can't take this for granted because so many things have to break right to survive this 14-week championship gauntlet. Nothing is ever guaranteed. We're gonna savor this one tonight with humility and reflection. War Bobcats!
